The guns couldn’t fire
The missiles couldn’t hit
The bombs couldn’t destroy
The jets sounded too feeble to rise
And turn it to rubble
Tons of metal stockpiles, ashamed
Toothless, grinned for a while
The brave men on the borders
Were left with no orders
High ‘Trump’ets and empty threats
Fell apart with no takers
The shaken powerhouses could
All but count numbers from their cozy indoors
That’s when they stepped out
Just like the avengers
One with a steth around the neck
The other with a hand that nursed
The khaki and the ringmasters
And then came the unsung daily fighters
Just like the superheroes
They fought the enemy
Unknown and unseen
With all that safety gears
A plastic to wrap on and
A mask to barely mask!
Sentiments locked down at home
The pain in the back
Kept on the back burner
They burnt the midnight oil
So we could all safely coil
There was more to fight
Virus was far better!
Ignorance, bricks and sticks
Mobs that always caused havocs
Fellowmen fell by the hour
A decent burial was far from real
But just like the superheroes they stood tall
And scripted tales that we shall never forget to tell
That there was a time in our lives
That when some men & women
Rose to answer that call of duty
Where sacrifices were called in plenty
Only to put humanity first
And all else to rest
In our hearts we shall find
A place for them all to stand
For the real life superheroes
The covid-19 fighting doctors, nurses
Policemen, civil servants
The cleaners and all the change makers
A big THANK YOU ALL
And keep up that fight
The world shall HEAL
And the lessons learnt shall stay for REAL
Without wax
Ash
