‘Follow your heart’
For years he did just that
For he thought, he had his path to peace
His guide to love and joy
His road to destiny
His mind muttered, grumbled
Then warned and roared
In no mood to retreat, heart said
Chill, why so jealous
Step aside, he is taken care of
The mind urged the heart
You make him passionate
You may get him to do great things
Yet with you he is weak and vulnerable
A moment in ecstasy
The next lost in despair
Middle ground has no ground
A life of extremes you offer
Is no new normal in the ‘normal’ he dwells in
So, let me take control!
Still reluctant, the heart said,
Dear mind, I know what you are!
With you in charge, he is a mannequin
No matter stylish, flashy and classy
But how hollow inside?
I make him human
Pain or pleasure, misery or ecstasy
I let him live it
He feels what many won’t
He sees what many can’t
Yes, hurt at times in depths he loves
No matter, that I call a Life!
The mind tightened up
For the world you make him an outlier
For the society, stubborn, a bit foolish, less practical
And much less ‘successful’
Moreover, now for all the records
The one who really told him
To follow his heart
Is really me!
So, stop fooling around
Take a bow, and fall in line
Just mind the rules I put him in!
And his poor heart
Sank under the weight of the mighty mind.

Perfect lines… I am amazed by the poem…you are no less than Rudyard Kipling.
